"STRIPED" ROOM PLANTS

CARE ONE-TWO
I keep my philodendrons in well-lit places, without direct sun exposure.
I water it with settled warm water after drying the soil on 1/3 (loose, nutritious - I add humus to the universal, perlite, pieces of bark, charcoal, vermiculite, coconut fiber, foam glass).
I feed from spring to autumn twice a month with fertilizer for decorative leaf crops. If the plant continues to develop in winter, I bring food once a month.
Propagated by cuttings, which successfully form roots in water, mhe, in the ground, being in a greenhouse.
For splendor, I plant several rooted plants in a pot.

PHILODENDRON – CHAMELEON
Passing in the spring past the shelf with a markdown, glance fell on a single philodendron with nondescript, dim, green leaves. And coming now, in the fall, looked at him with different eyes.
All because, what a black cardinal (black cardinal) does not apply to hybrids, artificially bred. It's a mutant, chimera, changing color of leaves depending on the level of lighting.
In the summer, there was more light - and a couple of new leaves of dark chocolate color appeared., which decided the fate of a hitherto nondescript plant: seeing its potential, I took a handsome man in my collection.
CORRECTION IN CARE
If in the summer this philodendron can be placed in the back of the room, to 3 m from the window, then in winter this place will need lighting. And watering needs to be reduced, unlike summer, so that the soil dries out a couple of finger phalanxes deep into. And I will replace the monthly hot shower with wiping the leaves with a damp cloth..
AFTER TRANSPLANT
Against all advice, did not add moss to the soil, the bark, vermiculite. Used expanded clay and earth as a substrate, but not mixed, but in layers, like in a pie. The roots of the plant are well covered, root collar not deepened.
I will cancel fertilizing until spring. However, so that this chimera shows itself in all its glory, fed all year round (exception - 3-4 months after transplant) : in summer - 2 once a month, in winter - 1 time. Better use organic (on wet ground), eg, liquid mullein. Mineral fertilizers can be given only as a last resort, due to their calcium content, much disliked by philodendrons. Dosage is always reduced 3 times, since excessive concentration will lead to the death of the roots and putrefactive processes. The plant will gradually turn yellow, wither and drop leaves.

HOW TO KEEP VARIATION
No seller in the world can give 100% a guarantee, that the plant will produce exceptionally correct variegated foliage by variety, and not go into greenery or grow albino leaves. To predict, how the pet will behave in your conditions, impossible. However, it is quite possible to reduce the risks: choose a plant with good genetics, provide bright lighting (scattered or direct sun, depending on the type of plant) and do not feed fertilizer with a high nitrogen content. By the way, it happens, that the flower forms excellent variegated leaves only under artificial light.

Variation is an artificially created mutation, when chlorophyll-free cells appear, which cannot participate in the process of photosynthesis (quite rare in nature). And although variegation is prized for its decorative qualities, the plant itself seeks to "recover", get rid of the "defect", therefore can start to give completely green shoots.

I prepare the substrate light, breathable, with a predominance of leafy land. For looseness I add peat and sand. I put charcoal on the drainage from expanded clay or foam (and root rot will prevent, and give them extra food) and in the soil mixture - a little coniferous bark.
