SANSEVIERIA "MOTHER'S LANGUAGE": FAMILY CHARM

Sansevieria at home - Photo

Slender sansevieria is not only beautiful, but also hardy. She forgives even gross mistakes in leaving. Pests and diseases of the flower also do not care. We know the plant under the playful names "pike tail", "Mother-in-law's tongue" - the nicknames were inspired by the shape of the leaves. It is also called "snake skin" for its spectacular striped-spotted color.. Be sure to have such an unusual pet at home.. They say, he brings peace and quiet to the family.

SANSEVIERIA: PLEASANT BLOSSOMING

Not all owners of sansevieria are happy with flowering. Only those who can enjoy it, who follows the basic rules of plant care.

CUTTING THE TAIL OF THE SANEVIERIA

Sometimes, with a lack of lighting, the leaves of the sansevieria stretch out and lose their stability.. There are two ways out of this situation.: tie a flower or cut (in any season). Tied – 1 Naya Sansevieria grew up at our house for two years. I once got tired of such unaestheticness - and I "cut" the plant.

long leaves (near 1 m) cut off at the base. I left the records on 30-40 cm. It turned out to be a neat bush, and nothing happened to the flower.

BTW

She did not throw the cut leaves away - she shortened it and put it in a glass vase, by adding an activated carbon tablet to the water. After a couple of weeks, roots appeared. Then she planted the leaves in the ground and rejoiced at the new sansevieria.

Sansevieria - planting and care

SANSEVIERIA – GROWING IN HOME CONDITIONS

HOME SANCIVIER CARE – INTO THE BAG OF TIPS

Choose a heavy ceramic pot for sansevieria. It will hold the pressure of strong roots well and will provide resistance to the tall variety.. As for the shape of the container, then personally I prefer wide and shallow (again due to the structure of the root system).

Not everyone tried to take out the "pike tail" in a warm season on an open balcony or in a garden. And by the way, it is after such a "vacation" that the plant has an increased chance of blooming.

Sure, it's too late to experiment now, but next season be sure to try. With the onset of stable warm weather, sansevieria can even be transplanted into open ground and kept there until September.

Usually, by the beginning of autumn, new shoots grow next to the mother plant., which I plant in separate pots during transshipment.

Sansevieria three-lane has a bactericidal, bacteriostatic, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, wound healing properties. for example, with otitis media you need 2-3 drip a drop of heated leaf juice into a sore ear, then cover with cotton wool, polyethylene and tie with a warm scarf. Make a compress at night. In the afternoon, repeat the instillation a couple of times.

SANSEVIERIA – LANDING AND CARE AT HOME – TIPS AND FEEDBACK

WALKING SANSEVIERIA PINGVICULA

Among the wide variety of sansevieria, some stand out for their unusualness.. how, eg, sansevieria pingvicula (Sansevieria pinguicula). Also known as a walker, or walking. Why? For some features of reproduction, complementing the look.

The thing is, that this plant forms daughter rosettes on long, moreover, above-ground, air stolons. The succulent sends these horizontal "tentacles" in different directions. Young plants gradually develop at their ends., releasing in turn long roots down in search of soil, in which they then take root. Thus, sansevieria "walks" around the space surrounding it., sometimes taking root in neighboring pots.

The adult rosette itself rises slightly with age above the soil level on its hard, dense and rather large roots - as if it is also preparing to “leave”.

CONTENT

Because of the fleshy hard leaves, storing water for future use, watering needs more scarce, than for sansevieria with relatively thin leaf blades.

You will also need more sunlight..

In the shadow of this African, comes from hot Kenya, will lose much of its beauty.

In my collection sansevieria already 2 years - I plan to eventually purchase its different types and varieties (especially like the beauty with a yellow stripe along the edge of the sheet).
I bought a plant with a small rooted cutting and planted it in nutrient soil for indoor flowers.
I water the sansevieria as the earthen coma dries out with settled or boiled water.
Transplanted the plant twice into a larger pot. Separated the children from the mother's bush.
I feed twice a month with fertilizer for ornamental leaf species.. But since there's a pattern on the leaves, I concentrate on 3 times less, how
in the instructions (found out, if a saturated solution is used, then the foliage can become monophonic).
There is a succulent in the children's room, quite far from the window, but still feel great. Noticed, which is of no importance to him., what is the temperature and humidity in the room. Periodically I wipe the leaves from dust with a wet cloth..

    1. You are doing everything right, Catherine. Just wanted to suggest, that universal soil or special soil for succulents is not enough for this plant. Baking powder must be added to any purchased substrate. (perlite, zeolite, diatomaceous earth, etc.). And then the sansevieria will feel even better.
If we talk about the effect of fertilizer concentration on leaf color, the point here is the amount of nitrogen in the nutrient mixture. This element harms precisely variegated forms., i.e. with whites, yellow and others (light) stripes. Fully green varieties are not particularly affected by its presence..
But sansevieria love fertilizers with a high content of potassium, regardless of variability. However, it is important to take into account, that succulents are reduced dosage.
Well, the stripes on the leaves may disappear or become faded in the absence of lighting.. This is a shade tolerant plant., but he also needs light.
