CORDILINA GROWING IN HOME CONDITIONS AND OUTDOOR GROUND

KORDILINA – HOME CARE

When our purple cordilina fruticose grew up in the house to 45 cm, its bronze-purple leaves formed into a bunch, and the top began to resemble the "hat" of a palm tree, decided to send the plant to the garden for the summer. Tropicana is very unpretentious in care, reacts normally to the change of day and night temperatures.

KORDILINA – CARE

A container with a plant was dug into a weakly acidic nutritious loam in a well-lit mini-flower bed. In the landing pit, I preliminarily arranged a "substrate" of coarse sand and perlite - this is an important condition. The soil is also well loosened, mixed with straw manure (2 buckets / sq.. m). Cordilina has powerful roots with long shoots, which through drainage holes can absorb nutrients from the soil.

The plant likes the bright sun, its foliage does not suffer at all. It is convenient to drip cordiline into the container: you can rotate it periodically, exposing the sun to different sides of the bush.

This tropical culture loves moisture, drought intolerant. Watered the plant at the root in moderation, and the soil around is deep, so that there is enough moisture.

To stimulate growth from May to September (twice a month) alternated organic and mineral water: under the root gave an infusion of chicken droppings (1:20) and liquid chelated fertilizer with trace elements, according to instructions. The main thing is not to burn the above-ground parts..

Cordilina grows slowly, does not bush. When, if the lower leaves are discolored or dry out, trim them neatly with garden shears.

REJUVENATION OF CORDILINA

Cordilin can be rejuvenated: cut off the top, sprinkle the cut with wood ash powder, root the stalk in diffused lighting, and rotate the container periodically, so that new shoots form better on the old plant.

Cordilins, mainly shrub and southern (Cordyline australis), used as exotic seasonal plants for summer flower bed decoration, rockeries, as tubs - for open terraces. Here they become the accents of compositions.. Send a tropicana to the garden for the summer is a good solution.

Digging into the ground with a pot eliminates overheating of the root system, even in the heat. Rain washes away dust and prevents many pests from multiplying. And the light, which is so important to this culture, much more outdoors, than in the house. With the onset of autumn, you should get the container with cordiline from the soil, wash and bring into the house. Before that, be sure to inspect all the leaves from below and from above - are there any pests.

It is better to first send the plant to an unheated veranda or glazed balcony for adaptation and only through 3-5 days - to the room, but away from batteries. In the southern regions, for example on the Black Sea coast, this culture can winter outdoors, but with good cover (build special "houses").

  1. Кордилина Растение лучше содержать при постоянной комнатной температуре. Do not worry, if the leaves become stiffer over time. This is typical for them with an increase in the age of the flower.: while the edges of the leaf blade may be slightly wavy or bent down (stomata on the underside of the leaf evaporate less water). Natural and woody trunk, associated with secondary growth.. In August, you can safely propagate cordilina with semi-lignified cuttings. Slice them with one knot (at the southern cordilina - with 6-10 leaves).
soil substrate: peat, leaf land, humus, sand (1:1:1:1). To have more cuttings, the bush is pruned before the procedure in order to stimulate the development of lateral shoots.
