CULTIVATION OF PEDYLANTUS IN HOME CONDITIONS AND CARE OF THE PLANT

This name was given to the titimaloid pedilanthus for its zigzag stems. The plant looks like it is covered with wax or varnish and looks like plastic. The variegated form is very beautiful, which has taken root in my collection.

PEDILANTUS – CARE WITHOUT DIFFICULTY

Pedilanthus is ideal for growing in apartments, where is dry air, because he doesn't like high humidity.

It is important to provide him with the brightest diffused light.. My plant stands next to the south window, tulle covers it from the scorching sun. With a lack of lighting or under lamps, longer shoots are formed, internodes increase, "Zigzag" is less pronounced, variegated leaves lose their pinkish color and pure green plates may appear. In summer, it is good to take a flower out into the garden in the lace shade of trees, only in the rain it is necessary to cover the soil in the pot with foil.

During the growth period, I water the succulent abundantly, without water stagnation and avoiding prolonged drying out, otherwise leaf fall begins. Excess moisture should be avoided, especially in cool weather.

I transplant the plant in spring, when the pot gets small and the soil is depleted. I choose the capacity not very wide and not too deep, since the root system is small. So that the substrate is air – and moisture permeable, I add coarse sand to it, fine gravel and structured clay - up to 40 % volume.

Pedilanthus is rarely damaged by pests, apparently, because poisonous.

I propagate the plant in spring and summer with apical cuttings. After cutting, I put them in warm water for a short time., to wash off the milky juice. Then I dry it for a couple of days in the air and plant it in slightly moistened perlite or sand. If rooting in water (adding activated carbon), remove the lower leaves and immerse the shoots on 2 cm. I plant in pots, when the roots first appear, otherwise they are fragile and long break when transplanted. I do not cover rooting cuttings.
