The donated calceolaria has faded, and now I don't know, what to do with her. How to keep a bush in winter? Will it bloom again?

Nadezhda NYRKOVA, e-mail question. mail

Calceolaria is prone to rapid aging, therefore it is most often grown as an annual. But if you decide to leave the plant for next year, then he needs a period of rest during 1,5-2 months.

After flowering, the bush is cut, leaving hemp high 3-4 cm. Then transplanted into fresh soil: slightly acidic, easy, air- and moisture-permeable from the sod land, compost, sand and peat - 1:1:1:1 or in a ready-made mixture for flowering.

The volume of the pot is practically not increased, and the jacket is not buried, since the stems are prone to rotting.

Put calceolaria in a cool place (+5-10 city.) shaded place. Moisturize moderately and regularly, avoiding sticking and overdrying. With the appearance of young sprouts, they are transferred to a light windowsill, protecting from direct sunlight.

NUANCES OF CARE

For calceolaria to please again with flowering, she needs:

  • good diffused lighting;
  • cool content - + 14-17 city, (at night it can go down to +8-14 city.);
  • watering after the topsoil has dried, without waterlogging, drying out and stagnant water in the soil;
  • feeding every 2 weeks (except for the period of flowering and rest) complex mineral fertilizers for flowering species.

At high temperatures and poor air ventilation, the likelihood of plant damage by pests increases.
