HOME SELAGINELLA – CARE

Now Selaginella (or scum) rarely seen in the homes of florists, since dry air is destructive for her. In addition, the plant does not tolerate drafts and sudden changes in temperature.. It was because of them that I did not save my first Selaginella Martens. In winter, in severe frosts, she died. But the beauty of the plant prompted me to buy a new cake. This time I tried to create the most favorable conditions for him..

FOCUS ON MOISTURE

Optimum temperature for keeping Selaginella -+17-19 city, (not less +12 city.). At higher - the leaves darken and die off. Bright light is harmful to the plant: inhibits growth, dries the leaves.

The beauty liked the place a meter from the east window (perfect north window sill). When there is a lack of light, the stems of the plant stretch and turn pale.

Dry air dry the tips of the shoots, therefore it would be nice to put a flower near the aquarium or in a bottle garden (closed container for moisture lovers). But in the second case, you have to be careful, Selaginella can easily rot in an enclosed space. I set a pot with a tray on a small tray of water. However, the tips of the branches dried up anyway.. Then she wrapped the stem in a tube of transparent plastic. To avoid decay, aired twice a day and sprayed several times a day with boiled, almost hot water. And watered with warm water, but not overly.

FEED with fertilizer for decorative leafy species in low concentration from spring to mid-autumn - once every three weeks, in winter - once in 2 months. I often loosen the ground to get air to the roots, otherwise the leaves become lethargic and soft.

IN AUTUMN SELAGINELLA DO NOT BREED

I tried to root the side shoot of the scrub, directing it into moist light soil. Later separated from the mother liquor and planted in a separate pot, but the sprout died.

Next time I cut a sheet and put, directing aerial roots into the ground, pressing lightly and sprinkling a little earth. However, this experiment also failed..

I think, that I chose the wrong time for breeding (it was autumn). I'll get to work again in the spring.
