CORRECT WATERING OF PLANTS IN PEAT SOIL
Over the past couple of years, I have more plants, including the Gesnerian. Violets and streptocarpus transferred to the wick this year. And she watered koleria and episodes in the usual way - from above.
In the summer, all the flowers quickly began to grow, but one day I noticed, that most of them began to look unimportant: leaves curled, the ends have dried up, growth has slowed down or stopped altogether, flowering poor. Even balsams have begun to shed yellowed foliage. What's wrong? Fed on time, found no pests, watered after drying the topsoil, avoiding the bay.
PROBLEM
It is difficult to wet the peat soil when it dries up - water quickly flows into the pan.
Recently transplanted flowers are less likely to be moisture deficient., but with the growth of roots, they consume water faster. This is especially true in the summer., when the peat dries quickly, and the plant suffers. In this case, you need to follow, so that the lump is saturated evenly, alternate bottom and top watering.
MY DECISION
I took out one plant from the pot, and everything became clear: the earthen lump was not even half wet, the root system dried out from a long lack of moisture and in places separated from the peat substrate.
I didn't bother with pet resuscitation, and gradually re-rooted all copies, who had problems.
When transplanting established cuttings into permanent pots, I added a little perlite to the peat, chopped forest moss, activated carbon. Plants began to grow rapidly, some bloomed. Alternating watering in the pan and on top, later checked the earthen ball again and made sure, that it is wet throughout. The leaves did not dry out, did not curl or fall.

Всем известно, что дренаж в горшках с растениями – штука необходимая. Но я столкнулась с одним неприятным явлением, которое заставило меня о многом задуматься.
Моя давняя приятельница поделилась со мной излишками комнатных цветов. Обрадовалась я такому красивому подарку и купила для новых жильцов самые дешевые горшки из пластика. Насыпала на дно дренаж из гальки, закрыла его землей и посадила маленькие росточки.
Поливала их нечасто, не обильно, но регулярно – все как обычно. Рутина! But, к моему удивлению, цветочки с трудом прижились, кое-как начали развиваться, but, eventually, благополучно завяли. All! Вытащила я растения и обнаружила, что корни почти у каждого были наполовину сгнившими. What's the matter?
Я поняла так, что в горшках произошел застой воды, почва переувлажнияась – и привет. Постойте, скажете вы, а как же дренаж? А оказывается, что в таких дешевых пластиковых горшках он может принести вред, так как вода проходит сквозь него намного медленнее, чем через однородную почвенную смесь, поэтому и ухудшается отвод влаги.
Эх, надо было мне не жадничать и сажать цветочки в керамические горшки. По моим наблюдениям, почва в них быстрее высыхает. Получается, что единственный плюс от дренажа в пластиковой таре заключается в том, что не выпадают комочки земли из дренажных отверстий на донышках.
