When I brought home a cutting of this succulent one fall, I didn't even know its name. Rooted, and in the spring I took it outside, where the plant felt great in the sun. In winter she looked after him, as for cacti: rarely watered, kept
in the cool (+16-20 city.), true, with not very good lighting. Somehow I saw a similar view, and he was with red "shaggy" flowers, which supposedly exude an unpleasant odor. I wanted to too, so that my pet pleases with flowering. And then at the end of summer appeared 3 button.
And when the first "leopard" flower opened, amazed by his beauty, it became clear, that this stocks are motley. She stood at the western window and, if you didn't touch her, then the "aroma" did not interfere. Started feeding the plant, and the flower lasted about 10 days.
The rest blossomed in late autumn and stood in dissolution for about two days.. Apparently, not enough light. Either because, that I moved the beauty to another window sill. And recently, a relative offered a slipway with red flowers. Now I dream of replenishing the collection with other "stars"

LARGE-COLORED STAPEL – CARE
Stapelia large-flowered (or grandiflora) lives with me more 20 years old. Grows as a green bush up to 30 cm. For 3 years after planting is gaining serious vegetative mass, after which I rejuvenate her, re-growing from cuttings. In adulthood, it willingly blooms all summer: bloom more 20 buttons, and at the same time they can immediately 3-4.
Flowers give off an unpleasant rotten smell, therefore I keep the plant in a ventilated loggia. Last summer, my daughter and I observed a curious phenomenon.
Have noticed some moving white dots on the inner surface of the petals. They turned out to be live larvae of flies. It turns out, flies, deceived by the smell, took flowers for their favorite delicacy and laid offspring there. However, crawling on a flower, after a while the larvae crumbled and dried up. Here is such an insidious deceiver, this beauty stapelia!
CONDITIONS FOR FLOWER
I prepare fertile soil for the plant, although it blooms beautifully and in impoverished for cacti and succulents.
I always keep the flowerpot on the sunniest side in the house, otherwise the shoots will stretch, but flowering may not come.
I water regularly throughout the year: in winter - scarce, in summer - moderately. With extremely rare watering, the shoots wrinkle and look ugly.
Staples multiply easily: I carefully twist the selected shoots, I dry it during the day and plant it in moist soil. By the way, cuttings give roots in water.
