Gimenokallis – transfer

Gimenokallis: rare transplant

Once upon a time, a colleague gave my mother a large onion gimenokallisa (Peruvian narcissus, spider lily).

After a couple of years, the leaves grew up to 1,5 m. Now it is already an adult plant, which we transplant once in 5 years in autumn.

We do not regret DRAINAGE - 1/3 the volume of the pot is occupied by a layer of expanded clay.

In a loose, lightweight substrate (flower soil with peat) we plant like this, so that the neck of the bulb protrudes slightly above the surface. And in the spring, we change the topsoil to a new one every year.

Cover the surface with expanded clay.

Water abundantly during the growth and flowering period, the rest of the time - moderately (excess moisture can kill the bulb). We feed once a 2 weeks in spring and autumn with liquid fertilizer for flowering species.

And after flowering, add wood ash: select the top layer of soil (1,5-2 cm), carefully, so as not to damage the roots, loosen the ground, gradually stirring the ash (near 200 r), and pour fresh substrate on top.

My hymenokallis does not have a pronounced rest period. It blooms twice a year: in May and December.

At first, one peduncle had 5 buttons, and in the last flowering counted 25! When we cut off a wilting peduncle, leaves do not fall, stay the same green, therefore we do not change the conditions of detention.

This is a light-loving plant, but can't stand the scorching sun. Stands in a narrow wall between the two south windows, and he is comfortable there.
