GROWING A DROPLETTE IN A DIY FLORARIUM
One of the favorites in my collection of carnivorous plants is the sundew (Drosera). The glands on its leaves secrete insect-attracting acids and a specific adhesive., restraining victim. And also an enzyme, helping to break down and absorb food. I try to keep the predator in conditions, as close to natural as possible - at very high humidity, in the florarium.
FLORARIUM OWN HANDS
Its sizes may be different, for example 90x 45×40 cm. I glue the glass blanks with silicone sealant for aquariums. I fix the corners with plastic corners. I build into the front wall (on high 4-5 cm from the bottom) aluminum tape with holes for air intake and in the upper part of the rear wall - for the outflow of warm.
I do not glue the glass cover, thereby leaving access to the inside. I pour water into the container (to level 2 cm) and put the pots (with drain holes) with sundew. Illuminate plants with phytolamp (9-10 W) not less 8 hours a day. I keep the humidity within 70% (as much as possible). I water with rain or distilled water.
METHODS FOR DREAM BREEDING
- Dewdrop from seeds
I sow seeds in spring in a wet substrate from high moor sour peat, quartz sand and sphagnum moss (1:1:1). "Severyanka" (Р. English and P. round-leaved) needs two months stratification in the refrigerator.
- Sundew propagation by plant parts
Cut sheet fragment, I leave the peduncle or root in the florarium. With high humidity, kidneys appear after a while, which, after planting in the ground, develop into independent plants.
- Rosyanka gems (kidneys)
There are sundews (eg, D. pygmaea), whose kidneys are ripening. They detach from the parent instance and, hitting favorable conditions, sprout.
- Dewdrop tubers Drosera myriantha and some other species grow from tubers. During the season, they form several new, which can be separated in autumn.
