Homemade jasmine – types and care (+ PHOTO)

JASMINE AT HOME

Jasmine is the king of aromatic plants. Fell in love with him so, that has collected a whole collection of varieties! By the way, I grew them myself from cuttings. Grown plants delight not only with their aroma, but also a noble look.

In winter at +15-20 city, many varieties continue to bloom on a sunny window, albeit not abundant. Watering at this time I reduce, I do not feed. I use only warm water, defended (leaves fall from the cold). Plants don't like drafts.

In the spring I cut: remove weak, thin twigs, I shorten strong shoots by 2/3. I transfer adult specimens once a 2-3 of the year, young - as the roots grow. I take pots a little more than the previous ones, with drain holes, I put a layer of sphagnum moss on the bottom. Slightly acidic soil: humus, compost, peat, vermiculite, coniferous land. I also cover with sphagnum from above, to keep moisture longer.

In the summer I pinch the shoots, leaving no more 5 pairs of leaves on each. I water abundantly, I spray, on hot days I pamper with a warm shower. Drying of the earth lump, like stagnant water, undesirable. I feed the flowers twice a month with liquid complex fertilizer. I cut it at any time of the year. Rooting twigs in the ground (can be in the water). I take cuttings after spring pruning, with two or three internodes. I dip the lower cuts in Kornevin, I bury it in the soil and put it in a heated greenhouse.

Jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum) blooms from January to April. Flowers appear along the entire length of the shoot before the leaves. Easily propagated by cuttings and layering.

Jasmine sambak (Jasminum sambac), or Arabic, with good care, blooms all year round. Each snow-white flower lasts no more than a day. When withering, the petals turn pink, then darken and fall.

Grand Duke of Tuscany. Blooms all year round. Grows slowly, compact bush. Also tolerates bright sunlight, and shading. Reproduces reluctantly.

Jasmine large-flowered (Jasminum grandiflorum) I grow it like a liana, in shade. The aroma of large simple flowers is more subtle and delicate, than sambac.

HOME JASMINE CARE

For abundant flowering and normal development of shoots, jasmine, first of all, needs good lighting.. They are uncomfortable in direct sunlight, so I take it out into the yard, under the canopy.

Plants with waterlogging or drying out of the soil, insufficient lighting, shed flowers in drafts, leaves and may die.

When watering hard, the soil alkalizes with cold water, flowers stop growing and gradually dry out.

Jasmines are prone to chlorosis, therefore I acidify the water for irrigation with citric acid.

Jasmine pests - spider mite, whitefly. Periodically inspect plants, I often spray, my, for prevention I treat with insecticides.
