BREEDING THE SAW

Peperomium pylaea has lost its decorative appearance. I want to cut and multiply it. When and how best to do it?

Elena PRIGOGINA, r. Permian

The pilea bush degenerates quickly. Elongated shoots, rare leaves, bare barrel - signal, what plant needs to be updated. Although it can be grafted and rooted all year round, the most favorable period for this comes from the end of February.

"CREAM" IN WATER

Apical cuttings length 10 cm dip in a glass of boiled water and put in a transparent greenhouse, so that the leaves do not lose turgor. Keep there until the roots appear.

SEPARATE THE "EXTRA"

Pilea releases small root suckers. Cut or break them off gently, taking out a plant with an earthen clod from a pot. Place in water or root directly in soil. If there are young people around an adult bush, well-developed offspring, carefully separate them with part of the roots. Place in water or plant directly in substrate (need a greenhouse). Take shallow containers, since the root system of the plant is superficial. Drainage is required.

SHEET WITH HEEL

This way is good, when you cut a plant that has lost its decorative effect. It turns out a lot of planting material. Use a sharp knife or blade to separate the leaf with the stem tissue. Dry for half an hour and place in water or plant in the ground. In both cases, a greenhouse is needed..

SEED PILLOW

You can sow now. Spread the seeds over the sand and peat mixture, sprinkle with a thin layer of soil and spray. Put in a greenhouse, keep at temperature +22-25 city. Ventilate daily. Seeds sprout from 3 weeks to a month. Moisten the primer from a spray bottle as the top layer dries.

As soon as the shoots appear, start to gradually accustom to life without a greenhouse, because the sprouts are afraid of dry air. When a pair of true leaves is formed, plant seedlings in separate pots in the soil for adult plants. Pilea prefers soil with the addition of humus.

PILEY THE PILE

Lebanese pilea (Pilea Ibanensis), which is also called gray, glauca, glaucopilla, "Came" to me with a twig. Put her in a Mandeville pot, and the new one quickly took root, filled the space, serving as a ground cover for a while.

I planted the plant in a small pot and decided to leave - somehow such a nimble "lady" did not suit me (I am cool with saws, as they grow overgrown and require regular haircuts). Having given the plant to a new mistress, found a small twig on the floor in the loggia. I put it on the ground in a large flowerpot with cymbidium.

It turned out to be tenacious. Rooted, over the summer, weaved and scattered lashes with small green-silver leaves. She wrapped the whole orchid and hung her legs out of the pot. handsomely. However, it interferes with the main plant. In early November, she decided to separate the hooligan, and she… bloomed - a pretty rug made of many small nondescript flowers.

Imprinted in memory, transplanted the plant into a wide 2 l pot, into loose universal soil with the addition of a baking powder, sand and leafy earth. The twigs are laid on the surface of the substrate, they will give extra roots. A hanging planter is also suitable for the saw - it is beautiful and convenient for long shoots.
