Ground cover indoor plants – photos and titles

Experienced florist Alexander TSYMBAL continues to introduce ground cover plants, suitable for home cultivation. They quickly fill the bowl with a fluffy "rug", add airiness to the window opening like ampels, in a friendly neighborhood with a large-scaler, cover the surface of the soil in a pot, decorate compositions in florariums and flower showcases.

PEPEROMIA

Even in erect peperomias (Peperomia) - and more often we breed them - the shoots eventually lodge and take root in the nodes. But there are species of this kind - typical ground cover. for example, peperomia climbing (Peperomia scandens), Peperomia creeping (Peperomia serpens), Peperomia pereskyely (Peperomia pereskiifolia), Peperomia headache (Peperomia glabella), Peperomia quadrangular (Peperomia quadrangularis) and the most spectacular and common Peperomia round-leaved (Peperomia rotundifolia).

All of them, to a greater or lesser extent, form a "carpet" of intertwined stems and leaves on the soil surface. Of course, the listed types have some individual characteristics of the content, but they have similar basic requirements. Plants are not demanding on lighting.

Grow well in the shade and cannot stand direct sunlight. By the way, unlike most plants, the color of the peperomia fades under too bright light, "Burns out". Due to the dense leaves of peperomia, they are able to put up with dry air, although spraying will do them good. Moderate watering, no frills.

PILEIA

As with peperomias, chickens (Pilea) are as erect, and ground cover. First of all, it is a salivary saw. (Рilea glaucophylla) some taxonomists question the status of the species), forming a dense rug of rounded silvery leaves. Looks like her Monofilament Pilea (Рilea nummulariifolia) with bright green corrugated leaves. Even finer is the smooth emerald foliage of Pylaea pressed (Рilea quickly).

Pylaea grow fast, branch well. They are quite flexible and unpretentious.. Shade-tolerant enough, but, unlike peperomias, the color of the saws is more intense in bright diffused light, and at the same time they stretch less. They tolerate dry air well.

Plants are thermophilic, temperature in winter - not lower + 18 city., in summer - until +25 city. Fertile soil is needed to grow them., eg, mixture of equal parts of turf land, leaf humus, peat and sand. As for other ground cover, planting pot suitable shallow and wide, with a mandatory drainage layer.

Pili flowers are small and inconspicuous, it is better to delete them, since flowering inhibits the growth of shoots. To stimulate branching in spring, the shoots should be pinched. Of the relative shortcomings, a rather fast, through 2-3 of the year, loss of decorativeness. However, Considering, that all species are easily cuttings almost year-round, this is not a big problem.

Saws are irreplaceable in compositions, as a background for a flowering plant or in a large pot. Miniature species are ideal for florariums.

SUKKULENTY

Ground cover plants can be found not only among the inhabitants of shady wet places. For instance, most stonecrops (Sedum) shoots lie down and over time form dense thickets, but there are several true ground covers: stonecrop Makina (Sedum makinoi) - small-leaved species, need to remove peduncles, and sedum thick-leaved (Sedum dasyphyllum) - extremely miniature ground cover succulent, forming dense mat. It is worth mentioning and Sedum blunt-leaved (Green masthead) - very decorative, with green or bronze leaves, the border of which acquires a reddish tint in the summer months. The agrotechnology of the described sedum is standard for succulents..
