CULTIVATION OF CLIVIA IN HOME CONDITIONS

Not far from our house, in a shop window, there was a huge clivia bush in a large flowerpot. Passing, every time I stare at his yellow-orange flowers.

The plant delighted in size. Bloomed almost constantly. But trying on its dimensions to the parameters of the loggias, I understood, that it will not fit on the shelves. However, desires tend to come true.. A friend called the florist: transplanted clivia and separated offspring for me.

How I cared for baby clivia

The baby turned out to be small - with two leaves. Half the base of the false stem was cut obliquely when separated from the mother plant, the remaining part has two small roots.

At home I washed the clivia with laundry soap., dried thoroughly with napkins. Then processed the base, wound and roots, sprinkled with a mixture of charcoal and "Kornevin". I planted it in a 1.5-liter pot in a slightly damp, loose, light soil. I put it in an open bag and from time to time sprayed on its walls, then the ground surface. When new leaves appeared, began to pour some water into the pan.

A task – to drink

I've been waiting for flowers for two years. The buds appeared in February 2010 r. - just in time for my birthday - and looked very elegant against the background of more than a dozen ribbon-like leaves. From then on, Clivia began a different life.: after flowering, but it happened mainly in February (less often in summer), - active watering and feeding. I haven't fertilized since autumn, watered less often, and then did not moisturize at all for about a month.

When watering, I tried not to wet the soil at the base of the plant too much. To make it easier to do, the soil was distributed as follows, so that its height at the walls of the pot is lower, than in the center. At the same time, she poured water into the pan - this is how the entire earthen lump was soaked, and individual roots did not suffer. Complex fertilizers in low concentration were added to water for irrigation.

IN 2012 year, out of curiosity, I pollinated the clivia, what I regretted later. The fruit took a long time to form, taking away strength and nourishment from the clivia. Matured.

Where are you - I don't remember. He was unnecessary for me.

If a peduncle appears

My clivia lived all year round in the loggia. Sometimes - in the south, if noticed, that she lacks light, but more often in the western, on the top shelf in the far corner of the rack. Cool and light enough. When did the peduncle appear, waited, so that he grows up to 8-10 cm, and put the plant in a bright light, but slightly in the back of the shelf.

About clivia transplant!

Rolled over the plant every 5 years - in 2012 and 2017 yy. By the time the soil was transplanted, there was very little left in the pot - the whole lump was braided by roots. In order not to disturb them (they are quite fragile and break off if handled carelessly), I slightly shaken off the old soil and transferred the plant into a larger pot. Poured fresh substrate on the bottom of the container and filled it, slightly compacting, free space on the sides and top. I started to water in a few days, on occasion, if cracked wounds have formed on the roots.

Is considered, that it is better for clivias to grow in a group. Mine, as a single plant, looked more advantageous.. Therefore, I separated the baby that appeared at the last transfer.

Clivia has problems in her tenth year. Even on a shelf high 80 see the plant became cramped. And last summer we parted - the clivia, along with the squat hamerops, moved to another city, into a light spacious office. Hopefully, she lives there comfortably. I still have pleasant memories of a bright beauty..

From October, my clivia begins a dormant period.

In conditions of excessive humidity at low temperatures, the clivium can be attacked by powdery mildew and gray rot.. In this case, systemic fungicides help out. ("Topaz", "Forecast").

When a peduncle appears, this is a signal - it's time to raise the air temperature to +18-20 city.

There is a plant on the east window, receiving bright diffused light, necessary for normal flowering.

Barely the flower arrow grows to 10-15 cm, I resume normal watering and feeding (1-2 once a month: liquid chelated fertilizer-rhenium "Clivia, kalateya, mon-stera », and with the emergence of buds - "Living Power" with vermicompost).

The beauty blooms at the end of February and pleases almost 3 weeks like a perfume created by perfumers.

CAREFULLY! Milky sap and rhizome contain a poisonous alkaloid.

The name Clivia was given by the English botanist John Lindley in honor of the Duchess of Northumberland Charlotte Clive. governess of the future Queen Victoria.
