ANTURIUM SHERZERA – DESCRIPTION HOME CARE. VARIETIES AND REPRODUCTION

Anthurium Scherzer (Anthurium scherzerianum), like its closest relative anthurium Andre (Anthurium andraeanum), - representatives of the largest genus of the Aroid family, or Aronnikovs (Агасеае), inflorescences differing from other species with a bright red veil. It's easy to distinguish between these two types.: in anthurium Scherzer, the ear is spirally twisted to varying degrees, curved, André's anthurium has a straight line.
Under natural conditions, Scherzer's Anthurium grows as an epiphyte or a land plant in the foothill and mountain humid tropical forests of Costa Rica, on the Atlantic slopes of the Cordilleras at a height 1300-2100 m above sea level.
DECORATIVE QUALITIES
The main advantage of Scherzer anthurium is bright and long flowering. Attractiveness is provided by a red-orange elliptical or oval bedspread. In modern varieties, its size is much larger than natural forms., and the color is varied.
In FAVORABLE conditions, up to 3-5 inflorescences, to replace the fading, new ones immediately grow, therefore it blooms almost constantly.
Scherzer's anthurium is grown not only as a houseplant, but also for cutting, for bouquets and floristic arrangements.
VARIETY VARIETY
Several dozen varieties have been bred, of which the most widespread are ‘Amazone’, ‘Sunlight’, ‘Tessa’ with a veil of various shades of red and scarlet colors; ‘Rothschildianum’, 'Amaretti biscuits', ‘Scott’, ‘Graffiti’ - white and white-green with red specks of various sizes and densities; ‘Album’ - white; ‘Arinos’ – green and others.
Popular miniature cultivars 'Christine', ‘Lindsey’, ‘Debby’, ANDfrom’ - orange, scarlet and dark red, 'Amarossi’ - salmon pink, ‘Lilian’ – lilac purple, ‘Roxette’ - white-green, 'Chocolate’ - very dark burgundy brown, ‘Kelly’, ‘Christine White’ - white with red speck. Of particular note is the unique ‘Super Nova’ variety’ (in the photo) with a large red blanket the size of a palm.
Miniatures, characterized by a compact habit, grow well in small pots, they take up little space, therefore, a whole collection can be placed on the windowsill.
FEATURES OF GROWING AND CARE OF SCHERZER'S ANTHURIUM
Scherzer's anthurium is not a very difficult plant in culture, well adapted to room conditions. For planting, you will need a light and loose substrate based on high peat, pine bark, sphagnum moss, baking powder (sand, perlite, vermiculite), providing good air exchange to the roots and water permeability.
The plant is grown in bright diffused lighting or in partial shade without direct midday sunlight. In the summer, in the heat, they water abundantly, in winter - moderately, without stagnant water and drying out the substrate.
Anthurium develops well and blooms at room temperature. In winter, it is useful to reduce the temperature of the content to 15 city., slightly reducing watering. This will promote abundant flowering..
REPRODUCTION OF ANTHURIUM SCHERZER
Anthurium is propagated mainly vegetatively - by cuttings of shoots and division of overgrown specimens. On an industrial scale, a biotechnological method of clonal micropropagation is practiced in laboratory conditions. Seed reproduction is used for the reproduction of species plants and for breeding purposes..
In the season of active growth and flowering, fertilizing with complex fertilizers for flowering species is useful 1-2 once a month.
The plant reacts negatively to excess fertilizer, therefore, the recommended concentration of the solution can be reduced.

ANTHURIUM IN SUMMER
TEMPERATURE AND LIGHTING
Anthurium is thermophilic, the optimal temperature for it is considered +25 city, (at night - about +21). I shade from direct rays at noon, otherwise burns appear on the leaves, they can curl. For even development of the shoots, I turn the pot a quarter turn every week.
AIR HUMIDITY
I put the plant on a pallet with wet pebbles or sphagnum moss, turn on the air humidifier. I spray the leaves with settled water in the morning. Arranging warm (near 40 city.) shower.
WATERING
Large roots of anthurium are able to store a certain amount of moisture and better tolerate short-term drought. Between watering I give the top (1-2 cm) dry a layer of soil. I drain the excess water from the pallet.
