GLADIOLUS IN POTS (POT CULTURE)

Once a friend invited me to her garden plot

When I saw her flowers, then gasped: delicious gladioli grew in huge pots! The sight was breathtaking, because well-chosen stylish containers and bright colorful plants gave a special charm and sophistication to the garden. At the same time, the flower lover placed them in the most unexpected places..

Naturally, I asked a friend, how does she manage to create such beauty. It turned out, to grow a gladiolus in a pot, special rules must be followed.

On a note

Gladiolus is not accidentally called a sword – its juicy green leaves really resemble a knight's sword. And flowers of different shades are arranged like this, as if repeating the outlines of this object.

All gladioli - one pot

The first, what should be done, – choose the right pots, in which gladioli will grow in summer. And this, by the way, you can do even in autumn, when the grower has a lot of free time. Containers with a depth of at least 40 and a diameter of at least 20 cm. My friend claims: the deeper the pot, all the better.

Holes are required in the container. If water stagnates here, then gladioli in the literal sense will not be good. Therefore, at the bottom we pour a drainage layer of small pebbles or broken ceramics. They will not only allow excess moisture to pass through, but they will also delay the soil, in which the bulbs are planted.

Nutrient soil is poured on top of the drainage. It should be loose and absorbent. And this – one of the main conditions. If the potted soil is scarce, then bloom will be the same. Why is it important? Because a lot more bulbs are planted in the pot, than in the flowerbed.

Choosing the best

To planting material – also special requirements. Bulbs must be taken healthy and dense, but plant, embedding to a depth of 10 cm, in April or May. And so that they take root well, after germination, place them in a warm, sunny place, where there are no drafts.

Advice

For those florists, who want to see gladioli early, you can plant bulbs in March, placing from each other at a distance of at least 6 cm. The first leaves can be seen after 3 weeks.

It should be noted, what, although gladiolus respects moisture, its excess negatively affects the condition of the plant.

In particular, peduncle may stop developing, bend and, naturally, will lose its natural beauty. Therefore, you can often water the plantings in pots., but not much. If it's hot, then gladioli need to be watered at least 3 once a week.

On a note

As the potted soil dries up faster, than in a flowerbed under the sun, it makes sense to mulch the soil with peat or humus, which, in addition, will also become organic feeding. But this does not exclude additional plant nutrition., why do you need to feed – root and leaf.

FEEDING POTTED GLADIOLUSES IN MODERATE

The first fertilizing with mineral fertilizers is done, when the third leaf begins to appear on the plant. The second – after the sixth sheet is formed, and the third and fourth – in the phase of bud formation and the appearance of inflorescences on peduncles. In this case, organic and mineral dressings should be alternated.. If plant growth is slowed down, they should be treated with growth stimulants – "Epinom-extra" or "Zircon".

My friend plans to transplant roses into pots too. In the winter will put them in the cellar, and in the spring to get. Is talking, that I tried to do it with one instance, and the result pleased.
