ALTERNATIVE METHODS FOR BREEDING LILADIES

- Each variety of daylily has its own habit, flower size and color, flowering time, coefficient of vegetative reproduction. To keep them, I propose to master special, alternative breeding methods, which will allow you to get a larger number of renewal shoots in the shortest possible time. They consist in a combination of conventional vegetative division methods with the use of plant growth and development stimulants. Let's consider two of the most simple and productive. The best time for them is the beginning of the growing season., but let's try now.

Breeding methods for daylilies

METHOD OF BREEDING LAYLILIES # 1.

Digging up the mother plant (Photo 1) and with a thin stream of water, gently erode the root system, to keep the maximum number of roots. Then with a sharp knife we ​​cut into separate parts (delenki) by the number of renewal shoots, preserving part of the root system for each shoot (2). Lubricate the cut sites in the area of ​​the root collar with cytokinin paste. For better root formation, the delenki should then be treated with Heteroauxin (according to instructions).

We plant them in a nutritious substrate, compacting it well around the roots, water abundantly. You can plant daylily not only in the garden, but also in containers with potting soil. The main condition - be sure to lay drainage, the soil must be air- and moisture permeable.

The active ingredient in the cytokinin paste is benzyladenine, a hormone, which stimulates cell division, and if you exceed the dose, cell development will be uncontrolled: instead of a kidney, a mass is formed, visually similar to a tumor, the formation of a healthy kidney from such an education is impossible and will have to be removed. Therefore, the paste must be used, strictly following the instructions.

FURTHER CARE

Daylilies love abundant watering, but stagnant water affects them negatively. We weed the plants regularly, moisturize, we loosen the soil and feed. But only after they have completely rooted.

METHOD OF BREEDING LILDLAYS # 2. Overcut

When the mother plant has one to three shoots and cannot be cut, we propagate in the following way. Without digging from the ground, we bare it to the level of the root collar or slightly below (Photo 1). With a sharp sterile knife, cut the leaves to the level of the root collar, without hurting her (2), and make a vertical incision of the growth point, that is, we cut each shoot in the middle into two parts to the root collar (3). Then we water the plant with a solution of "Heteroauxin" (according to instructions), adding any approved fungicide, to protect the slices from infection. Then sprinkle the plant with earth (on 2-3 cm).

Plant care is the same, as in the first case.

However, you should not rush to dividing them this season., daylilies, although they formed independent shoots, but their root system is still the same. It is better to divide and transplant a flower in spring., to enable you to grow your own root system over the next summer, capable of fully providing all the needs of the plant and delighting you with its beauty.
