Araucaria – planting and care

By themselves, the needle-shaped leaves of araucaria do not smell. But it's worth touching them, and the fresh scent will take you for a moment to the coniferous forest. By the way, after bathing in a warm shower, the spruce scent of a tropical beauty is more pronounced. Also, araucaria cannot be cut off., so as not to spoil the shape of the crown. Our authors will give even more useful tips for caring for an unusual plant..

Araucaria, or indoor herringbone, looks interesting at any time of the year. Especially pleasing to the eye in winter, it is often decorated for the New Year. And in the summer you can take it out into the garden, to give it a little exotic. In addition, fresh air and natural light have a good effect on the development of araucaria.. It's easy to grow a beauty, although there are some peculiarities in leaving, which allow you to get a lush green tree.

MY SECRETS

Lighting. Araucaria likes bright, diffused light.. By no means direct sun. You can place the plant on the north window. It is important to periodically turn the tree towards the light., so that the branches do not stretch to one side. It should be borne in mind when doing this, that the flower needs a lot of space.

IRRIGATION OF ARAUKARIA

I water the araucaria abundantly. Do not allow the earth to dry out. The soil in the pot should always be slightly damp.. Summer watering - 2-3 once a week. In winter, approximately 1 times in 10 days.

AIR HUMIDITY.

The plant loves daily spraying. It would be nice to use humidifiers. It is strictly forbidden to place araucaria near heating appliances..

TEMPERATURE.

In the summer, ideally - +23 city. In winter -+15-18 city. Cool wintering is required, otherwise the tree will not rest and will be exhausted by the warm season. In this case, the lighting cannot be reduced..

FEEDING ARAUKARIA.

In spring and summer I apply complex fertilizers for indoor crops. I do not feed in winter - the plant has a dormant period.

Araucaria transplant.

Young specimens require annual handling. Adults - once a 3,5 of the year. Araucaria transplant does not tolerate well, therefore, it needs transshipment with the addition of new soil.

Araucaria. cultivation, care and reproduction.

Now I am finishing up the araucaria on 4-6 hours per day with LED lamp (10-12 W), fixing on top, so that the lighting is even.

Content temperature from October to February -+12-15 city. How do I achieve in heating conditions? Firstly, covered the battery with thick foil.

Secondly, watering the soil, to always be slightly damp.

Thirdly, I often spray the crown with melt water.

And of course, ventilate the room. From the heat and low humidity in the room, the earthen lump dries out quickly, the needles turn yellow and fall off the flower, followed by branches, spider mite is actively working.

But dampness also hurts the tree. for example, roots rot from stagnation of excess water in the pan. Besides, I filter water for irrigation, to separate the sediment - there is a lot of calcium, what the plant doesn't like.

During the rest period, my beauty is "on a diet". I start feeding her at the end of winter, combining with irrigation. I reduce the fertilizer dosage by 1 /3. The complex chelate preparation with microelements "Gaspa-Dar" for conifers is excellent.

Araucaria usually successfully resists pests, however, flaws in care can turn into aphid attacks, mealybug or root beetle (from it the lower branches discolor and dry out).

How I struggle? I noticed a "cotton" lump of a worm or "ellipsis" aphids - with a brush, soaked in ethyl alcohol, I thoroughly wipe the whole plant, then I spray with Aktara systemic insecticide (according to instructions).
