I've been looking at gardenia for a long time, but two attempts to start it ended in failure. But now I admire the spectacular and fragrant flowering of the beauty. By the way, this year it fell on extreme heat, therefore the flowers did not last long, about a week.

I bought my first gardenia at the end of summer with a small rooted cuttings. The roots filled the entire volume of a small plastic cup, so I carefully rolled the plant into a slightly larger pot, in the ground for azaleas.

The new girl spent the winter on the east window, and in the spring she suddenly began to shed the leaves and turned black. Received the second gardenia as a gift. This blooming Dutch specimen fared even worse: two weeks later the leaves lost their turgor and the plant died.

I bought another pet 2 years ago in the spring. A small, but already with buds. The plant looked healthy and did not need a transplant.. For prophylaxis, I treated it with Fitoverm and put it on the western glazed balcony, to avoid direct sunlight. Soon a new "inhabitant" blossomed, and then released the next shoots.

She hibernated on a stand by the balcony door on the west side., away from battery, as it does not tolerate dry air. The temperature there is kept within +16-18 city., just this is needed for bookmarking buds. I rarely watered the plant, as the soil dries, settled, lukewarm water.

In the spring, with the beginning of active growth, moisturize more often, trying not to allow the soil to dry out completely.

But one day it happened, and the leaves have lost a little turgor. They recovered a few days after watering.. Since then I have been following the soil more closely, as overdrying can be detrimental to gardenia. At the end of May, the buds appeared, and a month later fragrant flowers blossomed.

Their smell is so strong, that even one flower fills the whole room with aroma. After flowering, the gardenia is recommended to be pruned., but I didn't do it, because my beauty is growing compactly. Now she feels good all year round and develops on a stand by the balcony door..

Six months ago, jasmine gardenia appeared in my winter garden collection., dreamed about for a long time. Read, that the plant is not easy, capricious, likes tropical and subtropical conditions. But I decided to take a chance, I was very attracted to its fragrant pale cream flowers.

In order not to move or twist the pot, otherwise the gardenia may not like it, immediately picked up a permanent place for her. I put it on the western windowsill and I light it up with 18 to 23 hours.

Keeping temperature in winter +16-22 city.

I water the plant after the top layer of soil has dried. I spray a couple of times a day. Protect from drafts.

In early autumn, I transplanted a bush into the ground for azaleas.. A month later, I started feeding every two weeks. (less often in winter) complex fertilizer.

I expect the first flowering in a year.

SPECIALIST COMMENT

Basically, care is described correctly, but you need to take into account the subtleties of the maintenance of gardenia.

Sprinkle with soft water, acidifying it (every 3-5 watering) juice of any citrus – 1-3 drops on 1 l, to avoid chlorosis. At the first sign of yellowing of the leaves, it is necessary to spray the leaf with "Ferovit", сульфатом магния (according to instructions). The temperature of the content in winter is not higher +18 city, (preferably at night +16 city., for planting flower buds).

Sudden temperature changes, too warm nights, overdrying or overwetting of the soil, lack of light will not allow gardenia to bloom.

As for permutations and rotations of the plant, then they are perfectly acceptable.. If the bush grows well, you don't need to change the place.. But when it's too dark, and the beauty prefers bright lighting, or the midday sun hits, leading to leaf scorch, then it is worth rearranging the plant. It still needs to be rotated regularly at a small angle., so that the crown develops evenly. And if you are afraid of falling buds, then do not touch the gardenia at the beginning of flowering.
