HIPPEASTRUM – LANDING AND CARE AT HOME

I made friends with hippeastrum, when a few years ago my daughter brought two onions from Holland as a gift.

true, they were infected with stagonosporosis. After long-term treatment with various fungicides, copper-containing ones helped - "Rubigan" and "Oksikhom". And when, in the middle of winter, plants gave me two huge, scarlet with white flower stripes, joy knew no bounds.

PREPARATION FOR HIPPESTRUM FLOWING

Soon acquired four more hippeastrum, three of which were terry. I processed the bulbs in a solution of "Fundazol" and planted them in the soil of clay-sod, leaf land, humus, peat, sand (2:1:1:1:1), immersed in 2/3. Distance to the walls of the pot - no more 3 cm. Spilled the soil with a pink solution of potassium permanganate and put it on the windowsill. Watered in the future only after the soil dries up, trying not to fall on the bulb.

BEFORE flowering, fed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizer, to stimulate the laying of peduncles. And soon she admired the bright "fireworks"!

CONTINUATION OF THE "BANQUET"?

When the hippeastrum has faded, cut off only wilted flowers, did not cut the peduncles - let the nutrients pass into the bulb. And then the leaves did not have time to grow, how did young flower stalks appear, who gave a new wave of flowering. clear, that this depletes the bulb and now it needs to be fed - the dose of phosphorus fertilizers has been significantly reduced, increasing - nitrogen and potash. A large number of leaves is the key to future lush flowering. The plant at this time needs a lot of sun and regular feeding twice a month.

REST PERIOD IN HIPPEASTRUM

In early September, I move the pots with hippeastrum to a dark, cool place for rest. I don't cut the leaves, I just press down a little with my hands. Deleting, when they turn yellow and wither. During rest, I water poorly once a month and a half.. After three months I bring plants into the house (often the tip of a peduncle or a new leaf is already shown from the bulb), transplanted into fresh nutrient soil. And my beauties give a sea of ​​positive emotions amid the winter blues!

Florists often ask: why hippeastrum does not bloom? I will share my experience.

The main condition for flowering is abundant feeding. Gippeastrum translucent. He was generously fed in the store, so this handsome man gave out more than one, and 2-3 floral arrows with 3-5 lush flowers on each. But after flowering, the bulb is depleted. She needs enhanced nutrition, what inexperienced growers do not know about. Regular compound fertilizer will do., but with a minimum amount of nitrogen, that is, in the composition in the first place, potassium should be indicated, phosphorus and magnesium. Enter it according to the instructions 2-4 once a month after watering.

LAYOUT OF FLOWER BUD

The bulb will take three to six months to form a flower bud.. Only a large bulb will lay bad flower buds (when its volume exceeds the length).

HIPPEASTRUM IN THE GARDEN FOR WELLNESS

In spring (April May) plant hippeastrum in open ground. In the fresh air, the bulb will grow stronger without fertilization. You need to dig up the plant before the first frost. Lay it down to dry, like a bow. But don't cut the leaves! The bulb will take nutrients from them, and the foliage will dry itself later. Store bulbs in a cool, dark place in a drawer. Plant in soil in pots, as soon as the "spouts" of flower arrows or leaves appear.

DO I NEED TO LEAVE THE HIPPEASTRUM IN HLEEP?

Some believe, that hippeastrum always bloom after hibernation. But the skinny bulb is unlikely to bloom, but fat and hibernation may not be needed.

Indoor specimens can not be sent to hibernation on purpose. Tried it differently: left in a pot and stopped watering, moved to a dark cold corner, dug up the bulbs and kept in a drawer. And as a result I understood: indoor hippeastrum for the winter can be left in pots, only in October-November I reduce watering, and then I completely stop at 3-4 months.

OUR REFERENCE

There is a myth about hippeastrum: pier, to make it bloom, you need to cut the leaves. And in stores, the bulbs are sold with cut leaves.. But this is optional. It's just that with large-scale cultivation there is no time to lisp with each bulb., nobody is waiting, until the leaves dry themselves.

HIPPEASTRUM COMFORT

I like Hippeastrum for its annual "zeroing". My handsome man pleases with flowering in winter, and then gains strength, to "reborn" again.

AFTER FLOWERING

I transplant the plant after flowering every spring. I choose a pot that is stable and deep, focusing on the size of the onion: distance to walls - no more 2-3 cm. I put a drainage layer under the special soil for bulbous crops. I bury the bulb halfway. In the summer, on a light windowsill, I shade the plant from the direct sun blinds. I water it with water at room temperature, which has been separated for at least 24 hours, avoiding waterlogging. During this period, the hippeastrum is restored after flowering., increases the leaves and volume of the bulb, lays flower stalks.

REST PERIOD

I cut watering in September. Leaves lose their elasticity and begin to dry out. Since October, I do not water a plant that is warm.. I'm waiting, when the foliage is completely dry on its own, and

only then do I cut it (do not cut off!) scissors. I take out the pot with hippeastrum about 2 months in a warmed loggia or put in another cool (+10-15 city.) a place. The bulb rests until January.

Wake up, BEAUTIFUL!

When the first flower arrow appears, I transfer the pot to a light cool windowsill and start watering the soil as the top layer dries up with warm, settled water, I don't feed anything. If the sprout does not show, I put a flowerpot with a plant in a basin of warm water, until the ground is wet. A few days after such a procedure, the bulb wakes up..

COOL BETTER

Flowering lasts approximately 2-3 weeks. Noticed, that the longer it is, the lower the temperature of the content (near +18 city.). I water the plant regularly, preventing the soil from drying out and moisture stagnation. When the flowers wither, cut them with seed pods, and let the peduncles dry and then carefully pull them out of the bulb.

HIPPEASTRUM – PREPARING FOR BLOSSOMING

For the first time this spring, I acquired hippeastrum bulbs and planted them in a flower bed for the summer. What to do with them now? How to care during and after flowering?

If the bulbs have bloomed before, then in the open field they recover well, grow up and gain strength. In September, plant each in a pot (immersed in 2/3), so that there is no more than 2-3 cm. Substrate - humus, turf and leafy land, peat, sand (1:1:1:1:1). Drainage is required. Put the onions at + 13-15 degrees. Darkness is optional. You need to water sparingly, but watch out, so that the soil does not dry out completely. When the flower arrows appear, rearrange on a light windowsill, shading from the direct sun. Provide temperature during their growth +20-24 city. When reached 3-5 cm, start watering with warm water after the top layer of the soil dries out by about 2 cm. Constant dampness can lead to rotting of the bulb.

Before opening the buds, periodically rotate the pot around the axis., so that the peduncle does not bend.

As soon as the first flower opens, it is better to transfer the hippeastrum to a cool (near +16 city.) a place.

AFTER FLOWERING

In order not to weaken the bulb, cut the wilted peduncle to a height of about 10 cm (the dried "stump" is then easily unscrewed). When leaves begin to grow intensively and nutrients accumulate for the next flowering, hippeastrum can be planted in the ground (greenhouse, orangery, garden) or leave to grow in a pot.

HIPPEASTRUM IN OPEN GROUND

My hippeastrums bloom twice a year. Some already throw out flower stalks in December, but the main part is in January-February. And then they also delight with fireworks in the summer. I think, it's all about, that I plant them for the season in open ground. The last three years - for a longer period, May to October (autumn is warmer now).

Now I plan to start planting bulbs in the second half of May.

I usually add a little Osmokot to the wells and don’t feed anything else.. I water from a watering can, sometimes even cold water. Leaves grow in a few weeks gorgeous. And in the heat, and without rain, the handsome man is happy with everything.

BENEFITS OF OPEN GROUND

Pots with "hipps" in the summer do not take up space in the house.

Bulbs increase in size and become larger, than when growing in containers.

More babies and good roots are formed.

Even those specimens bloom, that they refused to release flower stalks in room conditions.

Of the minuses can be identified: chores for digging and laundering from the earth, pest control (although I spray all my flowers after the street, because it was a bad experience).

HOW TO REST

Tried, after I wash the underground part, leave the plants until the foliage dries completely without soil. Then she wrapped the bulbs in newspaper and put them in a box.. Hippeastrum flowers are distinguished by their extraordinary beauty and grace of form.. In modern hybrids, they can exceed 20 cm in diameter. And how beautiful multi-color and terry varieties! In terms of attractiveness, this plant, perhaps, superior to many other amaryllis (clips, eucharis, daffodils). REPRODUCING HYPPEASTRUM – WAYS STEP BY STEP

SOWING THE SEEDS OF HYPPEASTRUM
