Wintering tub plants – what conditions are needed

WINTERING PLANTS IN CONTAINERS

Wintering is a difficult period in the life of tub crops. Without lowering the temperature for subtropical plants (citrus, oleander, myrtle and others.) coolness will ensure good flowering and fruiting next year. More about, how to create the necessary conditions for them, will tell the candidate of biological sciences Lyudmila ULEISKAYA.

INDUSTRIAL PLANTS

  • Abelia grandiflorum
  • Beresklet
  • Privet
  • Laurel noble
  • Lavrovychny medicinal
  • Japanese medlar
  • Oleander ordinary
  • Holly
  • Oriental flatfish
  • Boxwood is evergreen
  • American agave
  • Brugmansia
  • Southern cordilina
  • Common myrtle
  • Palm trees
  • Citrus
  • No way

You can also grow in tubs: standard roses, callistemon (beautifully bred), kariopteris, ladannik, witch hazel soft, japanese aucuba, passionflower, hibiscus, evergreen rhododendrons, European olive, common pomegranate and many others. dr.

IN THE FORECAST OF FROST

Kaddy plants are brought into a frost-free room with low positive temperatures, gradually accustoming to conditions, under which they have to winter.

Before that, they are examined for the presence of pests and diseases and, if needed, treated outdoors with appropriate preparations (according to instructions).

Cut off if necessary. Shorten the vines that are stretched over the season (passifloru, trachelo-sperm jasmine).

Tropical species (gibiskus, hoveya, hamedorea, date Robelena) bring into the house early and first put in the coolest place, gradually accustoming to room temperature (coffee, ficuses can partially shed their leaves - a reaction to changing conditions). Water regularly, not placed near batteries. In winter, tropican women are supplemented or lower the temperature of the content and reduce watering.

Subtropical evergreen species (laurel, feijoa, cicas, citrus, Canary date, washingtonia, hamerops, trachycarpus, oleander, myrtle, rosemary) need light. November (figs, Garnet) hibernate when there is a lack of light or in the dark. Watering during this period is reduced, moisturize the substrate, only when it dries up, but do not dry out. The soil is loosened after watering.

ЗИМОВКА КАССИИ

To maintain the decorative effect of blooming to a deep

autumn plants, it is fed with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers back in September. At a temperature +8-10 city, growth stops. Cassia overwinters in a bright room at + 12-16 city. Before this, the annual shoots are shortened by 2/3. If there are no optimal conditions for wintering, you can annually cut the plant on a "stump" and put it in the basement, preventing the soil from drying out.

LANTHANUM HYBRID

For the winter, the plant is placed on a warmed balcony, to the loggia. Before that, cut short, watering cut. In May, you can already take lantana out into the open air..

BUGENVILLE NAKED

Before bringing the plant indoors, cut long shoots, out of the desired contour. Bougainvillea hibernates in the cool (+8-10 city.), but not on the cold floor. After the leaves fall, watering is reduced. For earlier flowering, the plant is rearranged from March to a bright and warm place.. They are fed from spring to autumn at least often 2 once a month with full mineral fertilizer.

CADOCAL: 5 WINTER CARE RULES

Growing plants in tubs is especially popular in regular style gardens.. The most common bougainvillea, Garnet, gibiskus, laurel, in vain, lantana, dwarf bananas, citrus, boxwood, numerous conifers…

To make them look gorgeous, quality care must be provided not only during the warm period, but also during wintering.

  1. In room, where do they winter, the temperature should not be higher +10-15 city. Most often these are staircases., verandas, cold hallways, less often - basements with even lower temperatures.
  2. Subtropical evergreen species (laurel, myrtle, palm trees, yucca, etc.) and thermophilic conifers (italian pine, FROM. Bunge, cunningamia lanceolate, etc.) need light. Deciduous hibernates normally with little or no light..
  3. Watering gradually (starting from November-December) cut, moisten the soil as it dries, but do not allow it to dry completely, loosen after watering.
  4. Tropical species (coffee, ficuses, mandarin) winter in the house in the coolest room, away from radiators, they are watered like houseplants. But be prepared for that, that they will partially shed their leaves (this is a reaction to a sharp change in growing conditions). A naked bougainvillea can be left without leaves at all, even in very good lighting. The reason is sometimes hidden in damage to the root system due to improper watering..
  5. If necessary, in late February-early March, the plants are transplanted (pass over) into a larger container. Large tubs (optional) additionally decorate with ground cover: ivy, tradeskanciej. The watering regime is gradually transferred to spring.

IMPORTANT ABOUT IRRIGATION

Watering tubs for a dormant period is reduced smoothly, not sharply. In the first weeks (while adaptation to room air is in progress) keep the same frequency of humidification, slightly reducing the amount of water, - until, until the plant begins to shed its first leaves.

As the crown is lost, watering is gradually made more rare and in minimal doses.. As soon as the shedding of foliage stops, you need to adhere to the optimal frequency determined for this moment and water according to the same schedule in the future until the end of winter. Waterlogging should not be allowed at this time, as a cooled and too wet substrate can lead to root rot and death of the plant.

IF IN WINTER YOU BUY A FLOWER IN A POT

Closer to winter, flowering plants in pots are increasingly appearing in our homes.. Such live bouquets have become very popular in recent years.. Only here they please the eye for a short time. A week or two goes by, and the bouquet begins to fade quickly, losing its festive look. The reason – improper care. After all, purchased indoor plants need a smooth adaptation to new conditions..

First priority – right choice. The more carefully you evaluate the condition of the plant, the better the result will be. Be sure to inspect the leaves on both sides, they should not have any raid, mold, whitish gossamer. Such traces remain after spraying from diseases or pests., and no guarantee, that the plant is completely free of them. Leaves must be green, dense, do not twist. Dry ends, various spots indicate plant disease. Bare stems also prove, that it suffered.

Be sure to inspect the pot and the ground. There should be no mold on the surface of the earth mixture and on the walls of the pot.. An earthen ball should not lag behind the walls of the pot. The soil should be slightly moist.

Try to choose such a plant, which is just beginning to blossom. There should be a lot of buds, and flowers – a little.

All plants, which are grown as living bouquets, quite capricious and can react sharply to a change of residence. therefore, bringing a flower home in a package, don't rush to take it off, let the plant stand in the hallway and get used to the ambient temperature. It is also better to wait and not immediately introduce the newcomer to other representatives of the room collection.. To eliminate the possibility of introducing diseases and pests, need to quarantine the flower in another room.

Ideal temperature for flowers-bouquets – in range 4…18° C. At the same time, they should not be placed close to the window glass or placed directly on a cold window sill.. If there is no other place, then you need to at least put foam under the pot.

They will not be able to endure live bouquets and dry air for a long time. Spraying allowed, but only leaves, not flowers and buds. However, it is better to install a pallet with wet materials., fitting into the decor (with stone chips, colored expanded clay, pieces of glass). The first week the plant is generally better to keep in greenhouse conditions., eg, by placing the pot in a wide transparent plastic bag with an open top.

Despite, that these plants need short daylight hours, in cloudy winter weather, it is advisable to arrange artificial lighting. You can simply screw an LED bulb into an ordinary table lamp.

After the potted bouquet has finished flowering, the question always arises before the owner: break up with him, like with a disposable bouquet, or try to fight for his long life.

Before solving it, should be borne in mind, that winter flowering crops – people from the climate, "opposite" to our: tropical and subtropical plants – from countries, in which our winter is summer. They are all short day plants., that is, they do not begin to bloom, until the day gets shorter 12 hours. Caught in temperate latitudes, where the length of daylight hours in summer is more 15-17 hours, plants change their biorhythm, begin to grow rapidly at the expense of flowering. So that they bloom at the right time of the year with us, especially in winter, These plants are treated with a special technique., called distillation. In addition to creating suitable natural conditions for them (droughts, sudden changes in temperature), this technique involves the reduction of daylight hours to 8-10 hours.

Tubular plants in the winter garden
Inspect planted plants regularly, which were transferred from the garden to wintering indoors. Don't forget about watering, but they should be meager. Use room temperature water. Damaged branches, too thin and long shoots are best removed immediately, without waiting for spring.
Check once a week, whether traces of diseases and pests have appeared on the plants. Spider mites are especially dangerous. In case of severe infection, you can treat green pets with an insecticide (Aktellik, Fufanon) or a biopreparation (Fitoverm). Or wipe each leaf thoroughly with a sponge soaped with laundry soap, and then rinse with water.

If plants overwinter in a cold garden or greenhouse, then be sure to put stands under the pots, so that the root system is not overcooled.
